BUCS stands for British Universities and Colleges Sports. They organise both individual and team competitions for Universities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The majority of the competition takes place on the traditional Wednesday Afternoon for many teams, but also weekend tournaments take place for many other sports throughout the year and across the country.
Being part of BUCS means that we are a member of the largest University sporting organisation in the world. There are over 80,000 students competing in its contests, therefore making your playing days at University very special indeed. BUCS provides students with an exciting and prestigious basis on which to play university sport.
There are 151 associated members of BUCS that compete against one another. This happens firstly on a regional level in a league format, Keele is in the North West region so we regularly compete against other institutions such as Liverpool, Manchester, Lancaster and Bangor. There are 16 other institutions in the North West. Alongside the league format, there is also a regional knock-out structure, which allows teams to be crowned Regional Winners as well as League Winners.
Team:Keele currently has over 50 teams that compete within BUCS Championships, and most sports have annual trials for Northern Conference teams which can lead onto National Student teams to compete at international level!
