Sarah Tiplady, SPIRE PhD Candidate, was awarded the 2018 Richard E. Neustadt Postgraduate Paper Prize by the American Politics Group of the Political Studies Association.

Sarah’s paper, entitled ‘Presidential Campaign Strategy: Do campaigns just go negative in their use of tone?’, used analysis of presidential candidates’ campaign rhetoric to challenge the established orthodoxy on candidate’s strategic use of negative campaign advertising.

The Richard E. Neustadt Postgraduate Paper Prize is awarded to the best paper in the field of US government and politics presented by a postgraduate student at the annual American Politics Group conference. The 2018 conference was held in January at St. Anne's College, Oxford.
