Distinguished former student, Ambassador Nicholas Olusheye Davies, visits SPIRE

SPIRE was recently visited by one of the first cohort of students for the new International Relations degree, which was inaugurated in 1974.

After graduating in 1977 Nicholas Olusheye Davies returned to Nigeria, won a place in its Foreign Service, and had a distinguished career. Now retired, he came with his wife, sister, and niece, and was met by his former head of department, Professor Alan James, and one of his former tutors, Dr Lorna Lloyd. Ms Natalie Lloyd, Head of Development & Supporter Engagement also met him, as did two current MA Diplomatic Studies students, Emmanuel Tetteh and Jungshimanen Jamir, who discussed their dissertations with him and took him around the campus.

Ambassador Davies spoke in the warmest terms of his time at Keele, the teaching he had had, and the great extent to which it had helped him get his job, and his diplomatic career. Lunch was taken at The Sneyd Arms, where he pronounced the sausage and mash satisfyingly unchanged.
