The School Engagement and Outreach programme really pushes the boundaries of teaching and utilizes available resources and technology to gain maximum engagement from the pupils involved. I took part in Keele’s family event: ‘Spooktacular’. This meant working with children and parents alike to open their minds to science, in particular the workshop I ran was based on the sense of touch.
Even though science is not my strong point, this programme reconfigures how to teach students in new ways that might not be available in their classroom setting as of yet. Not only has it helped secured my decision on teaching, it has also developed my team building, planning and time management skills which are necessary for employability.
I would highly recommend School Engagement and Outreach to those thinking of teaching or those who just want the chance to work with children through innovative ways.
