The information detailed here represents our current thinking (as of July 2020). Depending on Government guidance and the local, regional and national situation, our approach to the delivery of your programme may need to be further refined. In this case, we will share further updates with you in a timely manner. - A blended approach which combines on-campus delivery with a digital foundation of learning resources and online engagement.
- Flexibility and adaptability: our teaching delivery will be responsive to the needs and expectations of students in the current context, with particular attention paid to online collaboration and support as a foundation for on campus experience.

Online live classes and other collaborative activities will be delivered using Microsoft Teams. Your learning materials will be available on the Teams platform and through the Keele Learning Environment (KLE).
We will utilise digital tools and platforms to help you engage with the learning materials. The engagement will include online lectures and presentations, available to view across your programme, and high-quality digital resources and communities to engage you in debate. Live online tutorials and discussions will be scheduled to help you apply your learning. We will provide a weekly menu of activities featuring recorded lectures, live group and/or one to one sessions and student-led independent study.
To support a learning community, student groups will be formed, teamwork will be encouraged, and students will develop essential, flexible learning skills critical for today and the future. For all areas of study there will be extensive online support material in the form of lecture notes, practice questions, additional reading and time allocated for online discussion with peers and support from your tutor. To support independent study, a recommended reading list, and additional library resources including many e-books and databases will be available.
We will provide dedicated personal tutor support for you through small group or one-to-one meetings, delivered online or on campus as appropriate.
For every module, you can expect to access an electronic handbook detailing a weekly learning plan as well as the on-campus and online learning activities.
We aim to utilise digital tools, platforms and resources to provide an engaging learning experience across your modules, so that the sessions of on-campus and ’live’ online teaching are as productive as possible.
The primary format of digital learning material will be focused, recorded presentations and videos. These will break down the concepts and relevant learning materials, and prompt you to respond to the ideas and debates they contain. Your tutors will provide digital reading materials, links to professional articles, and other multi-media resources to offer context and further exploration.
To enable you to engage with the lecturers on a live platform, we will schedule a number of live, online learning sessions. These sessions will be conducted using Microsoft Teams and will offer real time engagement with the material, with fellow students, and with lecturers to apply and discuss your learning. A virtual consultation hour will be arranged every week for each module in which students can discuss their queries with the module tutor.
These sessions will be delivered either on campus or live online using Microsoft Teams. They will be conducted for small groups of students, to help enable collaboration, participation and a highly interactive learning experience. Students will be asked to complete preparatory and follow-up work for these sessions and will be encouraged to work online with their peers and tutors, taking advantage of many opportunities for engagement and contribution over the week.
- You will have access to high quality, accessible, electronic resources including key journals and texts and online databases.
- We have rich, digitised resources to support your study, and will carefully advise you on any additional e-texts or textbooks that you need to acquire.
- The University library will also open as a physical space for study, and we will advise you on the best ways to take advantage of that service.
The module leaders and programme directors will create an assessment plan that is creative, innovative and avoids unnecessary repetition, testing a full range of knowledge and skills. Our assessment range will be adapted to the context, and offer rigorous, fair alternatives to in-situ exams when necessary, and reward students for their online learning and research. Detailed formative and summative feedback will be provided on your assessments, and delivered electronically so you can access it easily, safely and flexibly.
- Your Personal Tutor be an important contact for you to discuss pastoral requirements and queries about your learning, and to establish regular contact during your studies at Keele. Updated for 2020/21, you will benefit from improved opportunities to meet one-to-one with your Personal Tutor who will help support you using a ‘student journey planner', which provides a structure for meetings between Tutors and students.
- Your Personal Tutor is a first point of contact for any reference you may need. Your Personal Tutor will draw on their knowledge of Keele support services, wider professional expertise, and their extensive subject knowledge to offer support and signposting services throughout your student journey.
- In addition, we will assign you to a ‘tutor group’. This empowers you to meet and collaborate with other students and connect with your Personal Tutor in a wider sense: for example, to share experiences, raise questions and feedback on the progress of your studies.
