Using Astrophysics research to foster links between schools in UK and South Africa

PhD student Clara Pennock and Jacco van Loon have won their second Royal Astronomical Society grant in support of a programme of outreach related to their research on distant active galaxies and the use of machine learning techniques. Earlier, Clara taught students and teachers in India and helped them produce artwork based on what they had learnt; this time Clara and Jacco visited a school in South Africa and Thistley Hough in Stoke-on-Trent for a similar activity taking advantage also of Keele's access to the Southern African Large Telescope. Related activities at Keele Observatory help build evidence for impact.
