Mathematics alumna secures management post with IBM

Rachael Davies, who studied BSc Mathematics at Keele, is employed at IBM within a Public Sector Account as the Lead Service Manager for a collection of services after joining the IBM Grad scheme.

“I initially selected Keele as one of my options as it had a good reputation in Maths and I had spent a good deal of time there through my further maths course which was run in conjunction with my sixth form. I enjoyed the course and modules, it was challenging but provided a different way of thinking and approaching challenges which I think has gone a long way to support me in my career. The maths lecturers and staff were incredible. There were many occasions where I, with some of my classmates, stayed in the department for hours studying and revising for our exams with the lecturers calling in and popping their heads into the study space to check we were all still ok! I was lucky to have been accepted onto the IBM Grad scheme two weeks before final exams started, dependent on my results. This gave me a bit of reassurance but also a target to aim for. I now work for IBM, and was initially hired as a Business Consultant. Within the structure of IBM, I now work within a Public Sector Account as the Lead Service Manager for a collection of services. Studying Maths really helped me with Incident Management within my current role as I have a logical way of thinking that taking a Maths degree really developed.”
