NHS R&D approvals

NHS permission for research (or “R&D approval”) is required at a local level for all types of research before any research activities can commence at the Trust. Obtaining this permission is an essential requirement to conduct any study and is required by the Research Governance Framework for Health and Social care (2005) and for Clinical Trials of investigational medicinal products (CTIMPS), the UK clinical trial regulations (2004). This is achieved by the research team (in co-operation with R&D staff) submitting a valid SSI (Site Specific Information) application along with other supporting documentation as necessary for review and approval.
