Professional pharmacy practice research group

This group is comprised of academics with a diverse range of research interests in topics related to aspects of professional pharmacy practice and medicines usage. We have particular expertise in pharmacoepidemiology, use of simulation technology and improving medicines-related services and decision making.

Jon's main research interests centre on interprofessional education and the development of team intelligence in healthcare settings. Jon is particularly interested in the psychology and personality traits which underpin how pharmacists and pharmacy students interact with other healthcare professionals; and make their contributions to multidisciplinary teams.

Dr Martin Frisher

Martin's background is in psychology and epidemiology and my research interests include pharmacoepidemiology, psychology of addiction and medical decision making.

Dr Simon Jacklin

Dr Simon Jacklin

Simon's research and scholarship interests include developing the consultation and clinical decision-making skills of both under- and postgraduate health professionals. A related interest is shared decision-making and how we teach this complex skill to professionals. Simon also has an interest in simulation and its application to education, particularly virtual patient simulations.

Professor Katie Maddock

Katie's research interests lie within the field of pharmacy education, particularly technology enhanced learning, augmented reality simulation, and interprofessional education.

Matthew Stibbs

Matthew Stibbs

Matthew's areas of interest are public health / health promotion and gastroenterology. He is currently studying for a PhD in Pharmacy with the focus of community pharmacy support for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Jessica's research interests lie within the areas of pharmacist and patient education, technology and innovation. Jessica is also interested in consultation skills, in particular shared decision-making and how we teach this to undergraduate and postgraduate professionals.

Dr Rebecca Venables

Dr Rebecca Venables

Rebecca's research interests lie within the field of paediatrics and include: barriers to medicines adherence, acceptance of solid oral dosage forms, unlicensed/off-label medicines use and prescribing. Rebecca has been involved in a breadth of different research projects, including those utilising large GP data sets. She also has a research interest in pharmacy education.

Simon's research interests mainly lie in the fields of medicines usage and pharmacy practice, although he also has interests in a diverse variety of related fields, including public health, health services research, implementation science and pharmacy education.
