Public Health

Intercalated MPhils

The School of Medicine offers projects in Public Health for medical students to complete an Intercalated Master of Philosophy degree between years 4 and 5. The projects focus on priority areas of musculoskeletal health and health inequalities, work and musculoskeletal health, primary care data and prescribing, musculoskeletal and mental health comorbidity, and healthy ageing. The projects are aimed at developing skills in epidemiologic research and may involve combining population surveys with anonymised electronic health record data and other secondary data sources (e.g. government-sponsored surveys and longitudinal studies). All projects are supervised by a minimum of one public health practitioner/clinician and methodologist. We would expect that the findings from the research project would be presented to Public Health England and submitted as an original article to a peer-reviewed journal.
