Space expert explores threat to Earth
A space expert will be exploring the threat to Earth from asteroids when he gives a free public talk to mark the launch of Staffordshire Physics Centre.
Jay Tate, who is director of the Spaceguard Centre in Wales, has provocatively titled his lecture "The Science of Armageddon".
He will take the audience through where the global threat to life on the planet originates from, and how these asteroids can be detected using robotic telescopes that can be controlled from a laptop.
The lecture will take place on Tuesday, December 7, at Keele University's Dorothy Hodgkin Building and is open to anyone interested in science.
It marks the first event for Staffordshire Physics Centre, which is being supported by the Midlands branch of the Institute of Physics.
The centre will operate "virtually", with meetings held at different venues in Staffordshire and South Cheshire.

The event will start at 6pm with a light buffet, followed by the lecture.
