Keele Drama Society is set to stage an open air production of one of William Shakespeare’s histories next week.

The Merchant of Venice will be performed in the Chancellor’s Building courtyard on Keele University campus on June 3, 4, 6 and 7, with a matinee on Sunday, June 6. Doors open at 5.30pm (12.30pm matinee).

Directed by Matthew Maddock and David J Cooke, the play tells of greed, vengeance and romantic ambitions among interlocking characters in 16th century Venice.

Drama society press officer Jo Flynn said: “The Merchant of Venice is one of Shakespeare's most interesting plays and has something for everyone – including blood, sweat, tears, laughs, love and cross-dressing!”

Tickets cost £5 for Keele Drama Society members, £5.50 for students, and £6 other, including entry into a prize raffle and a drink during the performance. They are on sale in the Students’ Union every day 12pm to 3pm, or e-mail to reserve.
