Masters in Professional Leadership and Management

Posted on 21 December 2010

A new Masters in Professional Leadership and Management (MPLM) Award, and associated Post Qualifying (PQ) Award, in Social Work Leadership and Management (higher specialist and advanced) have been launched by Keele University. These add an inter-professional programme to the School of Public Policy and Professional Practice programmes at Keele aimed at post-graduate, post-qualification professional education.

The MPLM will focus on developing professionals in leading and managing in multi-agency settings and will involve mutual and shared learning among professionals from public services, in particular, social work, education and health. The School hosted a public lecture, delivered by Professor Patricia Higham, Chair of Nottinghamshire Community Health and member of the Interim Board of the College of Social Work, to launch the courses.

Professor Higham, whose lecture was about the challenges of leading professionals in public service organisations in the 21st Century, endorsed the aims of the MPLM as timely and appropriately crafted to meet contemporary demand. The MPLM and PQ Awards have been developed in collaboration with stakeholders including the School's service users and carers consultation group. The programme will commence in February 2011.
