Posted on 08 December 2010

Keele University and Santander Universities have today signed an agreement that will set up support for students and researchers and enable the University to develop a variety of projects within the Santander Universities scheme.

Through its Santander Universities Global Division, Santander gives more support to the university community than any other bank in the world. Since 1996, Santander Universities has channelled almost 600 million euros into academia through collaboration  agreements with over 900 universities in Spain, Latin America, Portugal, China, Singapore, Morocco, Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Every year, under the partnership, 10 flexible scholarships for postgraduate and undergraduate students will be available to be used within countries in the Santander Universities network. Also mobility grants will be awarded so that students and staff can carry out their work overseas. Finally a fund has been set up to support non-academic achievement in areas such as corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship and employability.

On the same day the university opened their Santander university branch on campus. Branch Manager Veselina Vasileva was on hand together with Keele University's Vice-Chancellor Professor Nick Foskett to cut the ribbon at the official opening.

Luis Juste, Director of Santander Universities UK, said: “Today Keele University has opened its doors to Santander. Not only are we signing a long term agreement with the university but also we are opening to the public our branch on campus. The spirit of Santander Universities is one of collaboration and partnership and Keele have fully embraced this spirit”

The spacious branch offers the same services as a high street branch and their staff are fully qualified and trained to offer a personalized service and exclusive products for the university community.

Professor Nick Foskett, Vice-Chancellor of Keele University, said: "We are pleased to welcome Santander to their new branch on campus and look forward to working with them to develop new opportunities for Keele and for our students. Keele is delighted to join the Santander Universities network and we anticipate a rewarding and exciting partnership, which will not only directly benefit our students and staff but also enhance our international research links. This is an excellent example of how universities and business can work together to promote innovation and knowledge transfer in the global higher education environment."
