|White Water Writers enables groups of up to ten writers to write and publish their own novel within five days. Writers are given an idea for a story on a single side of A4. They take the idea, develop it, draft it, proof it, refine it and polish it. After four and a half days – they publish it.|
Our in-school week-long writing ‘sprints’ are facilitated by volunteer students, who are fully trained and DBS-checked. The project develops writing and communication skills, teamwork and attention to detail whilst raising attainment and achievement as well as aspirations and self-esteem.
Our focus is students at Key Stage 3, but we’ve applied the project from Key Stage 2 all the way to university level, as well as in a variety of special circumstances.
White Water writers was developed by academics at Royal Holloway, University of London and Keele University and is fully supported by academic research and grounded in proven educational and psychological theory.
The programme uses specially designed online collaborative writing tools to create the unique writing experience. White Water Writers camps are not easy but they are worth it. To hold in your hands a book that you have written, is an achievement that most may only ever dream about.
