Public Lectures
Scary Monsters: The hopeful undecidability of David Bowie
Professor of Law, Alex Sharpe will, through Bowie, deliver a lecture to think through, and render accessible, some key categorical distinctions which the monster brings to crisis. In particular, we will journey through the territory of sex, gender and sexuality; human / animal hybridity, and the sacred and the profane. So roll up for the mother of monsters. The lecture will take place in the Westminster Theatre, Chancellor’s Building on Wednesday 15th March 6.30pm, and is free to attend.

Founding Myths
On 8th March we welcome Miles Taylor to discuss The Famous Founding Myths of Keele. This lecture offers a fresh look at the life, times and personalities of Keele in the 1950s and early 1960s, confirming some of the University’s founding myths, but dispelling others, and recovering a series of lost stories that properly belong in our historical understanding of the ‘Keele experiment’. The lecture will take place in the Senior Common Room in Keele Hall at 6pm and is Free to attend.

International Women’s Day
Keele is celebrating International Women’s Day with a series of talks from inspiring women who have all excelled in their field.The talks will reflect the steps which the University has taken to increase gender equality in the workplace and, in particular, through the Athena SWAN award scheme which recognises advancement of gender equality.

Visual Arts
The Three Counties Open Photography Exhibition will be displayed in the Art Gallery in Chancellor’s Building throughout the month until 29th March. Local photographers from Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire have their work on display with the opportunity to buy exhibited images. The gallery is open Monday to Friday - 10am-5pm
and Saturday – 10am-4pm.

Music
Come and watch the Budapest Café Orchestra on Wednesday 1st March at 7.30pm for an exciting evening of traditional folk and gypsy-flavoured music. Tickets for adults are £15, students/conc £8, with free tickets for Keele Music students.
The following week we welcome The London Arts Orchestra who are guaranteed to bring music to life in their performance on 8th March. Eleven performers, actors and musicians from the orchestra and the Rough Fiction Theatre Company will come together and bring you a musical story!
The Spring Festival of French Music takes place throughout March with events taking place on 8th, 15th and 22nd, featuring performances by Michael Bell and Guests.
There are also two Keele Music Forums in March, and performances from Keele Chapel Singers.

Literature
Award-winning author and creative writing lecturer Gwendoline Riley will read from her latest novel ‘First Love’ on 13th March at 7.30pm in Keele Hall.
There is also the opportunity for creative writing students to take to the mic and share their latest work in a Creative Mic Night on 27th March - a must for passionate readers and literature lovers!

Inaugural Lectures
Keele's programme of Inaugural Lectures all start at 6.15pm in the Westminster Theatre, are chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Trevor McMillian.
6th March - Professor Nick Forsyth delivers his lecture on Stem cell biology – going Back to the Future to improve tomorrow’s medicines.
14th March - Professor Sorin Baiasu lectures on Universal Ethics: Metaphysics, Politics and Conflict-Resolution
28th March - Professor Paul Horrocks speaks about Tackling Malaria: the biology, pathophysiology and death of the parasite

Grand Challenges Lectures
The Grand Challenges Lectures offer a distinctive range of interdisciplinary perspectives on pressing societal questions. They are free to attend and open to all.
1st March - Professor Steve Hinchliffe will be delivering a lecture on ‘Pathological Lives: On the cosmopolitics of losing self-assurance.’
22nd - March Professor Richard Collier will be speaking about ‘Asking the Law’s ‘Man Question’: Men, Masculinities and the Legal Professions’
