Keele top-rated in four key areas in largest global university ranking
Keele University has been ranked in the top category of ‘Very Good’ across four key performance indicators in the 2017 U-Multirank global university ranking.
The University scored top marks for Graduation Rate, Interdisciplinary Publications, Graduate Companies, and International Joint Publications.
U-Multirank, the largest global university ranking, has published a major new release of data showcasing 1,500 universities, shining a spotlight on high-performing ‘hidden gem’ universities.
Universities are ranked A ‘Very Good’ to E ‘Weak’ across a range of different activities over five broad areas; Teaching and Learning, Research, Knowledge Transfer, International Orientation, and Regional Engagement.
Keele received an A-rating of ‘Very Good’ for:
- Graduation Rate - the percentage of students who graduate at undergraduate level (Teaching and Learning)
- Interdisciplinary Publications - the extent to which reference lists of the university's publications reflect cited publications in journals from different scientific disciplines (Research)
- Graduate Companies - the number of companies founded by graduates (Knowledge Transfer) and
- International Joint Publications - the percentage of the university's research publications that list at least one affiliate author's address located in another country (International Orientation)
Keele also scored a B-rating of ‘Good’ in an additional four Research categories: Citation Rate, External Research Income, Research Publications, and Top Cited Research Publications.

European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tibor Navracsics, said: "U-Multirank gives students, parents and other stakeholders a valuable insight into the higher education institutions of their choice, across a range of parameters. This is vital to help drive informed decisions.”
The fourth annual edition of U-Multirank is the largest since its launch in 2014, including 99 countries, with 3,284 faculties and 10,526 study programmes. This year it includes 44,000 performance scores at an institutional level and another 65,000 at the subject level, making it the world’s largest global university comparison site.

U-Multirank is a European Commission initiative and is funded by the European Union's Erasmus+ Programme. U-Multirank is developed and implemented by an independent consortium led by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) in Germany, the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies (CHEPS) at the University of Twente and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) from Leiden University, both in the Netherlands.
