Keele University has welcomed climate experts to an environment politics event to discuss the future of climate politics.

Chaired by Keele’s Dr Marit Hammond and Dr Shashi van de Graaff from the University of Queensland, and Louise Maythorne from Bath Spa University, ‘Climate Politics in Interesting Times’ consisted of two academic panels, a grant writing clinic, and a roundtable on the future of climate politics. Organised and funded by the Political Studies Association’s Specialist Group on Environmental Politics, the event took place in The Sustainability Hub at Keele University.

Some of the UK's leading academics on environmental and climate politics discussed ‘Trump, Brexit and the new geopolitics of climate change’ and ‘New actors and spaces on the horizon?’ Mike Childs, Head of Policy of Research and Science for Friends of the Earth, took part in a roundtable discussing ‘The future of climate change in interesting times’.

Professor John Vogler, Professor of International Relations at Keele University commented:

“These are indeed interesting times as the future of the much welcomed 2015 UN Paris climate agreement comes under threat from President Donald Trump and the UK struggles to achieve a Brexit which will, amongst other things, impact upon its climate and energy policies.”
