National pharmacy conference at Keele

The British Pharmaceutical Students' Association is holding its annual conference at Keele University. The week-long event – from 31st March to 7th April 2013 - will see undergraduate pharmacy students from all over Britain (and three from the Nottingham University Malaysia campus), pre-registration pharmacists and first year qualified pharmacists descend on Keele, home of the area’s leading School of Pharmacy.

The day events consist mostly of conference business, including  the AGM when motions that will form the Association’s policies are debated. There are  also have several sessions throughout the week when guest speakers will be present. For example, on the Tuesday 2nd April they will be joined by Helen Gordon (CEO of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society) for a Q&A panel (alongside three other panelists). She will also be attending evening events which include the Reckitt Benckiser Student of the Year Award presentation and drinks reception (the competition final will be taking place in Keele Hall throughout the day); followed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society sponsored dinner where we will also be joined by Martin Astbury, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. On Wednesday there will be representatives from the pharmacy departments of several local hospitals and on Thursday guest speakers from the UKCPA and CPPE. On Thursday they will be hosting Rob Darracott, the CEO of Pharmacy Voice, and Mike Smith, a senior member of Alliance Healthcare. On Thursday afternoon they will be holding a Medical Exhibition in the Exhibition Suite, Chancellors Building and exhibitors include the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and the Pharmaceutical Journal, the General Pharmaceutical Council, GlaxoSmithKline, the CPPE and UKCPA, the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists, Boots, Superdrug, Day Lewis pharmacy and many more.

Keele organisers, Pharmacy students  Lottie Bain and Katrina Fredericks,said: “There are a huge number of prestigious guests coming who are very influential in the world of pharmacy.”
