Since its launch, the Three Counties Open has proved an outstanding success in attracting entries of the highest quality from artists throughout Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Artists from Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire have been invited to submit entries for the Keele University Art Gallery's Three Counties Open Art Exhibition.

Prizes for the competition include The Arthur Berry Prize, worth £1,000; the Barracks Trust Prize worth £250, and Keele University Prizes of £300, £150 and £50.

Keele University’s long standing Three Counties Open Art exhibition has gained a reputation for being one of the outstanding opportunities for artists from Staffordshire, Cheshire and Shropshire to show their work.

Arthur Berry was a gifted painter, poet and playwright. He was born and bred in Stoke on Trent and returned to the city after a short time teaching at the Royal College of Art and Chelsea. He was industrious and committed to his art and to the landscape of North Staffordshire, producing a large output of paintings that are now in many public and private collections, full length plays and volumes of poetry. A charitable fund was established after his death in 1994 and it is from this legacy that artists of today will benefit.

The Exhibition will run from November 7 to December 12 – receiving days for the exhibition are Friday 19 October, between 10 am and 4 pm, and Saturday 20 October, between 10 am and 1 pm, at the Chancellor’s Building reception on the Keele campus.

Exhibition organiser, Marion Gidman, said: "Since its launch, the Three Counties Open has proved an outstanding success in attracting entries of the highest quality from artists throughout Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire. The aim of the exhibition is to give artists in the region the chance to show their work to new audiences. I am sure the entries will prove an outstanding attraction for visitors to the Art Gallery at Keele University."
