Award winning poet Jean Sprackland will be giving a reading of her work at Keele University on Monday 30 April, 2012, as part of the University’s Poetry Live! series.

Jean Sprackland’s most recent collection, Tilt (Cape, 2007) won the Costa Award for Poetry. The judges praised its “taut, powerful poems which balance the anxieties of experience against the possibility of the miraculous.” Hard Water (Cape, 2003) was shortlisted for both the T. S. Eliot Prize and the Whitbread Poetry Award. Tattoos for Mothers Day (Spike, 1997) was shortlisted for the Forward Prize (Best First Collection). Forthcoming in 2012 is a book of essays, Strands: A Year of Discoveries on
the Beach.

In 2004 Jean was named by the Poetry Book Society as one of the ‘Next Generation’ poets. She is Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Poetry Live! Readings take place in the Chancellor’s Building at 7pm. Tickets are £5 (concessions £2.50).
