Alumni from Keele University have pledged their support for a fund offering American and Canadian students financial help with postgraduate study at the University.

From 2011/2012 two scholarships will be available – one for a student from each country – supported by the North American Foundation for Keele University (NAFKU). A longer-term fund will also be started for future scholarships.

The first NAFKU scholarship was awarded last year to Morgan Davison, a student from Virginia who is studying for a Master’s in Human Rights, Globalisation and Justice at the University following her first degree at San Francisco State University.

A small team from Keele University, including Morgan, recently visited New York and Toronto to meet with alumni.

Alumni officer John Easom said: “Alumni were extremely encouraged by the incentives and opportunities for North Americans to pursue postgraduate courses at Keele.”

The scholarships will provide US$4,000 (approximately £2,500) towards living costs at Keele. Final selection will be by members of the NAFKU board. All North American students who are offered a place at Keele will automatically be sent an application form.
