Keele University student Sophie Bohanan is hoping for pop stardom after signing to a record label.

The 20-year-old singer/songwriter, who has just finished the first year of her law with criminology degree, is set to record her first EP in July after signing to Assorted Records.

Sophie, who comes from Stafford, describes her music as “pop, with a rock edge” and is playing a series of gigs across Staffordshire this summer.

She started singing at the age of 11 as a pupil at Stafford Grammar School, where she performed frequently in school concerts, and became a member of a stage academy at the age of 16.

She said: “I read an article in the local newspaper that a new record label had been established in Stafford and they were looking for new artists. I sent my music in the same day and met them later on that day for lunch and it went from there.”

Sophie will appear at DomFest on Saturday, June 25, at Stone Dominoes Football Club; at The Royal Oak in Gnosall on Friday, August 26; and at a showcase for Assorted Records at Stafford’s Gatehouse Theatre on Monday, September 12.
