Biography

I have experience of working in hospital and community pharmacy; however, from 1999 I worked predominately as practice pharmacist and from 2005 to 2016 as a Prescribing Adviser for a Clinical Commissioning Group. I have been a casual course tutor on the Keele SP/IP course for many years before becoming a part-time member of staff at Keele in 2015.

Research and scholarship

I have recently completed my doctorate in pharmacy. My thesis was centred on the value of practice-based (clinical) pharmacists to general practice, the training they require, and the integration of pharmacists into established GP teams. I continue to be interested in the role of the pharmacist in GP teams including how they assimilate prescribing within their role.

Teaching

My main teaching activities are related to prescribing studies, mainly for postgraduate trainee independent prescribers. This includes legal and professional issues, clinical skills, clinical governance, medicines optimisation and deprescribing. I also contribute to clinical skills training for undergraduate students.

Further information

My working days are now formally Tuesday and Wednesdays
