"Today, the results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) were released. For all universities this is a hugely significant event and is as important for evaluation of a university's research as any league table or university ranking. The outcome is important in determining the research funding that UK higher education institutes will receive for the next few years.

REF determined that 97% of the Keele University's research is classified as World leading (4*) and internationally excellent (3*). Keele's position as a leading university for research of world class quality and international excellence has been confirmed by these results today.

The School of Pharmacy is delighted by the results of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework.  Staff from the School of Pharmacy submitted to two units of assessment – Allied Health Professions and General Engineering, and Keele performed excellently in both.

In Allied Health Professions Keele University was 1st for impact by 3* and 4* rating from the 94 submissions made UK wide. In General Engineering, 100% of the Keele University submissions met the standards for 3* or 4* environment, and 70% for impact.

These are significant and solid outcomes and there is much further information on the Keele University Website. There are many ways that REF results will be evaluated, interpreted and presented but here at The Keele School of Pharmacy we are delighted to share the above with you.

There will be further information released by Keele but I wanted to share the above with you now.

May I take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy Christmas and success in the New Year."
