Richard Gallagher - MA Industrial Relations
I started the MA Industrial Relations (part-time) at Keele University in September 2012 after successfully completing the Certificate in Industrial Relations, which was an excellent introduction to the subject. I graduated in October 2015, and have really enjoyed my time studying at Keele.
The course was delivered by a combination of distance learning and residential periods every few months in which you attend lectures over a few days. This enabled me to fit my study time around my full time job, and by attending lectures throughout the course I did not feel cut off from the University or the other students and my tutor.
The material provided for each module included detailed tutor notes as well as all the relevant literature which certainly helped as I only really had access to the library when attending the residential periods. Additionally, there is an online ‘e-books’ service as well as online access to all the relevant academic journals. This is all complimented by excellent lectures provided by the staff during the residential periods, providing all the information required to complete each module.
Throughout the taught part of the course and the dissertation you are assigned a tutor and I found my tutor and all the other staff members to be very helpful and supportive. The dissertation module is really beneficial as it gives you the opportunity to carry out some original research in the subject. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience studying industrial relations at Keele and would recommend the course to anyone who is interested in the subject.
