Biography

Miliça joined the Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre in 2006 following the completion of her PhD in Statistics at Keele University's Mathematics Department. She joined the Research Institute as a Postdoctoral Researcher before she subsequently became a Lecturer and then Senior Lecturer in Statistics.

Research and scholarship

Miliça leads the statistical design and analysis on a range of studies including large population surveys, electronic health record data, clinical trials and meta analyses.

In particular, Miliça's interests and expertise lie in methodologies (such as propensity scores and frailty modelling) for treatment-outcome research using electronic health recorders and other observational data and she leads the iPCHS programme of work relating to this, building on the work funded by her award of the NIHR SPCR Fellowship in 2010. This fellowship focussed on modelling longitudinal observational data.

Miliça has been been involved in grant income that totals over £3.7 million.

Teaching

  • MMedSci Statistics and Epidemiology
  • MBChB SSC Research Methods
  • BSc Mathematics: Linear Statistical Models

Miliça has previously led two BSc in Mathematics/Statistics modules (Stochastic Processes, Advanced Statistical Interference) and has successfully supervised two PhD students, two MPhil students and one Masters student through to completion. Miliça also currently supervises four PhD students and two MPhil students.

Further information

Miliça is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, member of the Irish Statistical Association, member of the Society for Academic Primary Care, and a member of the NIHR Statistics Group. She is also a member of the Trial Steering Committees and Data Monitoring Committees for external clinical trials.

Miliça regularly reviews for various funding bodies (MRC Methodology Research Programme, NIHR Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation Programme, ESRC, EPSRC) and for approximately 30 scientific journals.
