Welcome from the Head of School

Professor Christian Mallen ‌I am delighted to welcome you on behalf of the School’s faculty, staff, and students to the School of Primary, Community and Social Care and I hope you will be inspired by the glimpse this website gives you of our exciting and vibrant community.

Our School offers an outstanding range of research and teaching expertise within a thriving primary and social care community, with over 150 staff, 60 undergraduate students, and 160 taught postgraduate students and 75 postgraduate research students.

We are a diverse community, all focussed in delivering the best in teaching and research. We are home to internationally-renowned teams of researchers and methodologists, answering questions which will have a profound effect on the health and care of the nation.

We pride ourselves on being a family/friendly School, recognising the demands on work/life balance, and have been awarded the Silver Athena Swan award for our efforts in improving working practices to ensure all our staff and students are supported at all levels of their work and study.

Uniting a world-leading research institute with established teams in the areas of social work and counselling enables us to explore and respond to new research questions, further breaking down the boundary between primary and social care.

I am incredibly excited to be able to oversee this new and dynamic educational environment and look forward to watching our students grow into future leaders within health and social care sectors.

With best wishes,

Professor Christian Mallen
