NHS Partnerships

We are proud of our close relationships with our NHS partners and patients, with this partnership formalised through the Primary Care Research Consortium. The Primary Care Research Consortium is a collaboration with local primary care commissioners and providers of health care in North Staffordshire and Stoke. This collaboration brings together the research institute and our local NHS primary/community care providers and commissioners to deliver a joint research strategy supporting engagement, design and implementation of research in everyday clinical practice.

Our high research impact (REF rated 90% of our research Impact to be World Leading) is underpinned by this long standing partnership approach and has led to many innovative joint clinical academic posts, supporting a programme training clinicians in research methods and evidence based practice.

The Research Institute for Primary Care and Health Sciences includes the Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre of Excellence (competitively awarded in 2008, renewed in 2013) leading our extensive programme of primary care musculoskeletal research. Our research portfolio is further enhanced through membership of the NIHR School of Primary Care Research (competitively awarded in 2009, renewed in 2014) and collaborations with other members of this group, and membership of the Collaboration for Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) – West Midlands. We support our stakeholders in translating evidence into practice, with a dedicated implementation team working alongside our NHS consortium partners and regional/national bodies such as the West Midlands Academic Health Science Network, NICE and professional groups such as the Royal College of General Practioners (RCGP ), Charterd Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and others.
