RN, BN (Hons) Critical Care Nursing, MSc. Advanced Practice (Nursing).

I am an Independent and Supplementary Nurse Prescriber.

My clinical background is in Acute Medicine initially based in the Medical Assessment Unit. From 2004 I worked as a Medical Advanced Nurse Practitioner in various specialities including Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Infectious Diseases and Elderly Care. This role involved a high degree of personal professional autonomy making critical judgements in the clinical assessment and management of adult patients and as a lead member of the Cardiac Arrest Team. Whilst in clinical practice I supported the theory, clinical skills and OSCE’s of the Health Assessment in Clinical Practice and Holistic Health Assessment Modules at Keele University as a Visiting Lecturer and I joined Keele as a Lecturer in Adult Nursing in 2014.

My teaching and research interests include all areas of Advanced Practice and Clinical Skills, Resuscitation (including Family Witnessed Resuscitation) End-of-Life Care, Family-Centered Care in the Acute Medical Environment, Experiences of People with a Learning Disability in the Acute Medical Environment, Infectious Diseases, Pre-hospital Care and Participatory Action Research.

I am currently undertaking a PhD study and my research involves using Participatory Action Research approach to improve the support provided to children and young people who visit acutely ill adult relatives in hospital.

I am a member of the Keele Palliative and End of Life Care Research Group, Keele Action Research Network and University Hospital of the North Midlands Learning Disability Steering Group.
