Research within the School of Nursing and Midwifery

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is committed to evidenced based teaching and practice, and has a developing portfolio of active researchers and supervisors. We have academics from a range of nursing and midwifery backgrounds who are able to support Masters, MPhil, PhD and Professional Doctorate students in a variety of research topics using a range of research methodologies. We usually work in small supervisory teams across the University, to ensure that students receive the best possible supervision at all times.

Our research themes

Research in the School is led by Professor Gwenllian Wynne-Jones. Research is organised and managed through our School Research Committee and is focused around a faculty research theme (FReT). Our FReT lead is Dr Andrew Finney and we have three specific research groups: Loss, bereavement and end of life care; Primary, Community and District Nursing; and Women's Health.

Research support

We as a School along with our Faculty Research Theme (FReT) have a number of initiatives to support our academic staff, our clinical colleagues and our external partners. We want to support those who are undertaking research or wanting to undertake research. Our initiatives are a 'Bright Ideas' clinic to discuss your ideas with our senior research leads. A 20 minuters external seminar series where you can come along to support our speakers or to present your own research. We will also be hosting a number of 'Writing for publication' workshops.
