The Research Centre for Astrophysics pursues a vibrant programme of understanding the formation and evolution of planets, stars, and galaxies. We exploit leading international facilities to obtain forefront observational data, and combine this with computer-based theoretical simulations. The dozen academic staff are supported by postdocs and PhD students, and are funded by an STFC Consolidated Grant and by ERC grants.
The group publishes over 80 papers per year in leading journals, with 86% of the group's research outputs being rated 3* (''internationally excellent'') or 4* (''world leading'') in the 2014 REF.
