International Fellows' International Representative

Professor Shaughn O'Brien, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, has been elected International Fellows' International Representative on the Council of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

He has previously been a member of the Council for six years and was the College's Vice President for the past three years. His responsibilities then centred primarily on National issues, Professional and Clinical Standards and the NHS agenda.

His new role focuses on the education and examination of specialists from abroad as well as involvement with the work of bodies (whose membership includes Sarah Brown and WHO) that seek to address the devastating fact that, throughout the world, one woman dies in childbirth every minute, most of which is potentially preventable. The College has always maintained an important position in the training of specialists from former Commonwealth countries and this role is set to intensify.
