Best practice ... memorably linked to places in the drawing of the 100 Aker Wood by E H Shepard

A team of Keele's Research Managers was surprised and delighted to win the delegates' prize for their poster at the annual conference of the Association of Research Managers & Administrators (ARMA) held in Liverpool from 5 to 7 June.

The poster caught the imagination of 700+ delegates and received the highest number of votes. It described some key ideas for best practice in supporting good quality research grant applications, memorably linked to places in the  drawing of the 100 Aker Wood by E H Shepard. The authors were Mark Smith (ISTM), Claire Ashmore (IPCHS), Mike Hession (HUMSS), Ellie James (DEP), Mark Pullinger (FNS) and Joanne Simon (IACS). This group of Keele Research Managers has worked together through regular meetings for the past 12 years, helping to co-ordinate cross-Faculty research and assessment, share ideas and spread good practice. They are all members of ARMA, the national organisation that offers a range of training and support to professional managers and administrators in most UK universities.

Mark Smith, Research Manager in ISTM, (pictured) accepted the prize on behalf of the team during the last day of the conference on Wednesday.
