Faculty of Natural Sciences

Staff Profile Image 200x277 I am delighted to head the Faculty of Natural Sciences which spans a broad spectrum of subjects. Our Schools of Life Sciences, Psychology, Computer Science and Mathematics, Chemical and Physical Sciences and Geography, Geology and the Environment build scientific skills and awareness of the issues relevant to our sustainable development, health and well-being and quality of life. As a student in our Faculty you will experience an excellent quality of teaching.

As well as the opportunity to take a combination of subjects in your degree, many of our courses offer placement opportunities or study abroad options, all designed to provide you with a fulfilling experience, increase your employability and degree outcome. Many of our degree programmes are also accredited with relevant professional bodies. Our Research Centres are integrated in the Schools allowing students access to leading researchers and excellent facilities.

The standing of our research, as highlighted in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), confirms the Faculty as an excellent place to study and attracts staff members of the highest calibre who wish to work in a supportive, collegiate environment. Research submitted in the REF demonstrated that the Faculty is having a genuine impact on the world around us, with all submissions areas having world-leading examples where society has benefited from our research. Several of our leading research successes have hit the headlines, for example the discovery of new exoplanets, ashdieback and research into how swearing reduces pain.

The increasing popularity of sciences at Keele means that we are constantly investing in our facilities and we recently completed a project to develop new facilities to meet the demand for Life Sciences. Our £10.1 million development has provided two state-of-the-art teaching laboratories plus additional research laboratories.
