Biography

Sally was born in Bath, playing the recorder from the age of eight and soon competing in a variety of classes in the Mid Somerset Festival. She studied at the Royal College of Music with Edward Walker for flute and John Dyer for viola, also attending Freda Dinn’s recorder classes. Sally subsequently toured with the London Festival Ballet and D’Oyly Carte companies, specialising in piccolo before returning to London to freelance. At this time she also taught recorder for the I.L.E.A.

Sally moved to Shropshire in 1979 and continues her solo and orchestral career. She taught flute and recorder at Wrekin College for over 30 years and continues to work at Shrewsbury School. She has been coming to Keele since the early 1990s, plays in a flute and guitar duo, and, as an adjudicator with the British and International Federation of Festivals travels all over the country keeping abreast of current performance practices. In 2015 she was invited to Hong Kong where she adjudicated at the Schools Music Festival, hearing over 1,000 up and coming recorder players!
