Paul Nevins

Biography

Paul Nevins studied trumpet with John Dickinson, in Manchester, prior to entering the Royal Academy of Music, where his teachers included William Overton, trumpet, Mildred Litherland, piano and Maurice Miles, conducting. Following graduation Paul completed a one year teaching qualification at Bretton Hall College.

After a full time career of some 18 years including the roles of Group Leader of Music Centres (Nottinghamshire) and Head of Brass and Coordinator of Instrumental Teaching (Walsall), Paul has pursued a varied freelance career. He is an examiner for Trinity College London and OCR, and performs with English Pro Musica. He has also performed with the Hallé Orchestra, and English and Welsh National Operas.

Paul has now completed his PhD thesis, Trumpet in Transition: a history of the trumpet and its players in the United Kingdom through the music and relationships of Sir Edward Elgar, at Birmingham Conservatiore supervised by professors Ron Woodley and Peter Johnson.
