Music’s Dr Nicholas Reyland was awarded the Keele Academic of the Year prize at the KeeleLink annual awards ceremony in May 2013. Nick received the award for his work on the University’s outreach and widening participation programme. His citation read as follows: ‘The winner of this award has received consistently positive feedback from learners on all the sessions that he has delivered for the Keelelink
programme. He has been very proactive and his engaging approach has been appreciated both by staff organising events and students.’

Nick regularly runs sessions on ‘Music and Mind Control’ for KeeleLink, analysing TV music and its subliminal influence on audiences with visiting school and college students from across the UK – sometimes with as many as 150 participants. He has also recently visited local schools on outreach projects, and organized visits and events at Keele for local school and college music and music technology students.
