Brass musicians young and old came to Keele last weekend for a workshop and concert celebrating a new partnership between Foden's Band - one of the UK's greatest brass bands - and Music & Music Technology at Keele. Tutors from Foden's worked with two brass bands - beginners and more advanced - throughout the afternoon.

Each workshop group, and a massed workshop band, later performed a set at the evening concert - a St. George's Day Spectacular in the Chapel featuring music from Foden's (conducted by Richard Evans) plus performances by Keele's own brass band conducted by Music student Amy Stringer. Soloists from Keele (Hugo Boucheny, Jordan Edge, Oliver Sargeant, David Foulger, Andrew Hartnell) also enjoyed the incredible opportunity of playing solos with Foden's. Between events, workshoppers and tutors retired to the Clock House for tea, accompanied by Music & Music Technology's Programme Director, Dr Nicholas Reyland, where they could learn more about studying at Keele.

Feedback on this amazing day - the first of a series pairing outreach workshops and concerts being developed by Music & Music Technology with various partners - has been uniformly positive. Workshop participants came from far and wide via local music services, brass bands and schools.

The workshop and concert were organised by Dr Reyland with the assistance and support of Kerry Jones (Arts Keele), Keele University Brass Band, Keele Outreach and Foden's Ian Raisbeck. It is to be an annual event.
