Description for 2017/18

This module focuses on the Multinational Corporation (MNC)and its management. In particular political-historical, cultural and language/communication related aspects will be examined through the use of empirical case studies. Appropriate theoretical frameworks will be used to identify the key skills and competences that managers and other agents in the MNC need to develop in order to manage it effectively.



Aims

To introduce students to the Multinational Corporation (MNC) as a key organisational form of international business;
To provide insights into the operational activities of an MNC;
To theorise MNCs from different perspectives (e.g. rational-economic; cultural, political);
To examine the key skills required by agents of the MNC to operate it effectively.

Description of Module Assessment

01: Assignment weighted 70%
A 3000 word essay, based on empirical case studies discussed in class time
Based on case study findings, identify and theorise the key factors that impact on MNC operations.

02: Essay weighted 30%
A 1500 word essay based identifying and discussing key competences and skills required for inter national management
Students will identify and discuss key competences and skills required for inter national management based on the case studies covered in class, identify the key skills, competences and mindsets that are necessary for effective MNC management
