This course will appeal to anyone wishing to enhance their educational practice, skills, and knowledge. Participants will explore issues fundamental to effective health professions education in a dynamic, stimulating and supportive setting. You will gain expertise in effective medical education in the context of your own practice. You will also develop a scholarly approach through evaluating established practice and educational initiatives, extending your ability to contribute to medical education as a discipline.
The course has a modular design which is ideally suited to busy health professionals, and uses a variety of teaching approaches, leading to the award of a certificate, diploma or master's in Medical Education.
There is a need for greater professionalism and accountability as clinical teachers, and this course is designed to meet this need by providing a sound theoretical and practical basis for good teaching practice. It complements the established Teaching and Learning in Higher Education Programme at Keele, by emphasising small group teaching in clinical settings and education for clinical competence.
