Pathologists and Radiologists

Specifically designed for Pathologists and Radiologists. Interactive, participant-focused and provided by experts with experience in, and knowledge of, your particular challenges.

Our Keele Course aims to prepare you for the transition from training to independent specialist practice at consultant level, introducing you to contemporary concepts of leadership and management, as well as offering insights into the consultant appointment process.  The course sessions are themed and linked to the Healthcare Leadership Model and the programme design includes interactive presentations from policy experts, personal development consultants and senior speakers.

Nationally recognised and specialty-specific, the two-day intensive courses have been designed for higher trainees and SAS doctors wishing to prepare for a Consultant position.  This will support you in acquiring leadership and management skills, part of the curriculum requirements to complete your training.

Our ST courses focus on
  • examining what leading and managing mean in the context of the Consultant role
  • creating a sound understanding of how the NHS operates and is financed
  • helping course members to prepare for successful  interviews and their early years as a Consultant
  • enhancing personal effectiveness through a menu of leadership and management skills and techniques.
Learning outcomes
  • a working knowledge of NHS structure, policy and finance to support the early years as a Consultant
  • greater proficiency in the key leadership and management skills required for effective practice

In conjunction with the University Hospital of North Staffordshire Radiology and Pathology Departments we would like to offer you the opportunity of an optional additional day 3.

The third day builds on preparing for the consultant interview. The day provides an in- depth review of the job application process and is predominantly designed to developing your techniques to answering the different types of interview questions. The aim is to identify areas from your clinical experience which you can utilise to provide the best response to interview questions. The afternoon session entails using the contents from the morning in a mock AAC interview.  The interview panel will consist of authentic panel members who have had experience questioning on real consultant interviews. Each session will have a feedback and questions component so you can extract the maximum educational benefits from this unique learning experience.

Due to the logistics of running a real AAC consultant interview panel we can unfortunately only provide 8 places. We understand that as a result all attendees for the day 1 and 2 of the Keele Diagnostic Specialties Leadership Course will not have the opportunity to attend day 3 and we can only offer to the first 8 applicants to request a place.

The fee for day 3 is £125. Lunch is provided along with a tour of the University Hospitals of North Midlands Histopathology and Radiology Department.

To reserve your place, please contact Alison Manning, Course Administrator, on or telephone 01782 734935.
