Library Resource Spotlight: EHRAF Archaeology

To celebrate the Council for British Archaeology's 80th anniversary and this year’s Festival of Archaeology (13th-28th July 2024), let’s introduce – EHRAF Archaeology!
EHRAF Archaeology is an award-winning database containing a collection of in-depth descriptive documents focusing on archaeological traditions from around the world, which can be browsed by subjects, cultures or documents. Every document in the database is carefully indexed by anthropological experts to highlight key subjects in every paragraph!
The database is organised by traditions and indexed at paragraph level by HRAF anthropologists with unique subject identifier codes from the Outline of Cultural Materials, a subject-classification system which tags the thematic contents of every paragraph, making it ideal for both exploratory, in-depth cultural research and cross-archaeological comparisons. The database contains nearly 1 million pages of original source material covering over 360 cultures!
This year’s Festival of Archaeology is themed around Archaeology and Community and incorporates hundreds of in-person and virtual events across the UK promoting involvement in archaeology and helping over half a million people to participate in exploring and interpreting the past through the lens of the present day!
So, get digging and check out EHRAF Archaeology, Council of British Archaeology and the Festival of Archaeology! This database can also be accessed via the library’s A-Z online resources and there’s a handy quick start guide too!
