Searching Databases

Bibliographic Databases

In some cases the full-text of an article will be available directly from your search results to view online. If the full-text isn't available from your search results, look for the @Keele logo and click this. This will search all our e-journal collections and provide a link to the whole paper if available, or direct you to where a paper copy may be found in the Library's print journal collection. 
Items not available either online or in print can usually be obtained for a fee through the Inter-Library Loan Requests service.

PsycINFO

EBSCO Psychology & Sociology Databases
Searches not only PsycINFO (see above) but also Academic Search Complete (multi-disciplinary), AgeLine (social gerontology), CINAHL Plus (nursing and allied health) and MEDLINE (medicine) at the same time. ProQuest Social Sciences Databases

Cross-search a variety of databases including Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts (ASSIA), Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts (LLBA), Published International Literature on Traumatic Stress (PILOTS), Social Services Abstracts and Sociological Abstracts. Electronic Journal Collections

The Library subscribes to a number of searchable e-journal collections with full-text access available as indicated. You can directly access articles from specific publishers and journals by browsing these collections.

PsycARTICLES
This is the APA (American Psychological Association) e-journal collection. Our PsycARTICLES Quick Guide will help you get started.

Cogprints

Electronic archive of papers in psychology, neuroscience and linguistics.

JSTOR 

Digital archive of over 1,000 academic journals covering the sciences, social sciences and humanities.

Oxford Journals
A collection of more than 250 electronic journal titles from Oxford University Press with full-text access from 1996 to the latest issue for all titles. To access articles from off-campus, you need to search for the journal title first and the article you want to look at before it will prompt you to log-in.

SAGE Journals
Over 600 peer-reviewed, full text journals with coverage dating back to 1999.

Taylor & Francis Online
Over 1,500 journals covering a range of disciplines. Click here to access T & F off-campus (you will need your Keele username and password to log-in).

Wiley Online Library
Access the full text of over 1,400 journals covering a range of disciplines. Click here to access Wiley off-campus (you will need your Keele username and password to log-in).

Searching for E-books

E-Books

E-books can be read in full, online, on or off campus.

You can search for e-books that the Library has bought by using Library Search and using the "Search Books and More" option. Enter the title or keywords and from the results, use the filters to select "Full Text Online" and then select "Books" from the Resource Type filters. This will show you the e-book. Click the "View Online" link to log-in.

If you just want to browse the e-book collections we subscribe to you can access them from the following links, but the best way to search for e-books is via Library Search.

The following services provide full-text access to a large number of newspapers:

ProQuest European Newsstream (previously UK Newsstand)
Provides the searchable full-text of articles published in around 30 UK newspapers including The Times, Telegraph, Guardian and The Independent. Our ProQuest European Newsstream Quick Guide will help you get started.

Nexis UK 
A news and business service which includes around 12,000 publications, including worldwide, national and local newspapers. Our Nexis UK Quick Guide will help you get started.

The Times Digital Archive
Search the complete digital edition of The Times from 1785-2006. The entire newspaper is captured with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos. Our Times Digital Archive Quick Guide will help you get started.

Theses

To search for theses held in the Library, use Library Search to do a standard keyword search and then filter the resource type to include 'Dissertations'. The following resources may also be of use:

ETHOS 
The British Library ETHOS project provides electronic access to research theses from many UK universities.

Index to Theses 
A searchable listing of theses with abstracts accepted for higher degrees by universities in Great Britain and Ireland since 1716. You can only access the Index to Theses from computers on the Keele network.

NDLTD – Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations
Details of theses and dissertations from universities in the United States and worldwide.

PhDData 
An index of doctoral dissertations in progress around the world.
