Dr Barbara James

Barbara James teaches on a number of postgraduate and undergraduate modules, and the Trinity CertTESOL. She also looks after the Language Centre's in-house professional development programme, and the outreach programme with the local refugee organisation ASHA. 

Barbara joined the Language Centre at Keele in 2011 as a sessional teacher, and started work as a full-time Teaching Fellow in 2012. Prior to this, she worked overseas for 25 years, mainly for the British Council, on a number of government and international aid organization projects, in countries as far afield as Mongolia and Botswana. Barbara is particularly interested in teacher training, sustainability in teaching, language policy and performance management systems.

Barbara has a BA (Hons), PGCE  (TEFL), M Ed in Teaching English for Specific Purposes and PhD in the field of sociolinguistics, specialising  in language policy and planning. She is also an NVQ Assessor and Verifier for language, business administration, travel and tourism and management to Level 5. She is a CELTA and Trinity TESOL trainer, a Cambridge examiner, and for 15 years was an IELTS examiner.
