Professor Alex Sharpe and Dr Peter Dunne published an article in the Oxford University’s Human Rights Blog

On 28th March 2019, Professor Alex Sharpe (School of Law, Keele University) and Dr Peter Dunne (Bristol University) published an article in the Oxford University’s Human Rights Blog, regarding the illegality of operating a blanket ban against transgender people who lack a GRC in UK gyms and other facilities.

Alex and Peter discuss a blanket exclusion of trans individuals without a GRC as being unlawful because refusing to allow a trans person to use a gender appropriate changing room prima facie constitutes direct discrimination under the protected characteristic of ‘gender reassignment,’ and if the customer is cis, on the basis of ‘discrimination by perception.’
