The Social Work Law Association was formed in May 2015 with an inaugural meeting at Keele University attended by social work educators from around the country and a second meeting in June 2016. It was recognised that a range of academics and practitioners from social work and legal backgrounds are involved in teaching social work law throughout the UK but limited opportunities exist either through legal or social work based interest groups to meet and focus on this important area of education.

In forming the association, key objectives are:

-To bring together interdisciplinary perspectives on the study and practice of social work law;

-To inform/build local, national and international collaborations for the comparative study of social work law;

-To develop effective networks toinform policy practice and academic debates;

-To promote research collaboration and teaching excellence; and

-To disseminate research findings to social work practitioners and educators.

We aim to hold seminars throughout the year to further the objectives above.
