Keele Management School Business Advisory Board
The Business Advisory Board's members are business leaders drawn from a wide range of organisations, both local and global in scale, and from a range of sectors. They were selected for their ability to provide high-level advice and support that will guide Keele Management School's future development. The aim is to ensure that our students acquire the right skills and employability, and the Management School itself is able to serve the needs of the knowledge-based economy, both locally and nationally.
Business Advisory Board Members
Richard graduated from Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth before joining KPMG where he worked in the UK and Canada becoming a partner in 1982. His clients included Focus Wickes, Steelite and the University of Keele. He is Chairman of the Dinwoodie Charitable Company which owns and leases a sand and gravel deposit in Cheadle, Staffs and donates the rental income to medical postgraduate education.
Andrew is Managing Director of Federal Mogul UK and Ireland which features many market-leading names such as Ferodo, Champion and Moog. He was previously Sales and Marketing Director Exide Technologies and is a graduate of Keele Management School.
J. Stephen Bratt
Stephen graduated in Law from Leeds University before joining the ceramics industry where he held positions in Production, Sales and Marketing of minerals and ceramics materials prior to diversifying into biomedical development. He co-founded Biocomposites Ltd and founded Medilink West Midlands to drive company/university interaction. He is a member of the Institute of Orthopaedics based at Oswestry.
Sinéad has been Chief Executive of the Staffordshire based Aspire Group since 2006 and is a board member of the National Housing Federation. She is a Keele graduate and is one of the University's founding "fellows" in recognition of her achievements and Aspire's support for North Staffordshire communities.
Richard graduated from Keele University in 1990 with a degree in Geography and Economics, which was followed by an MBA from Leicester University in Sports Management. Richard has worked for both Adidas and Puma and is currently the Senior Sports Marketing Director at Nike.
Wayne has been Managing Director of Michelin Tyre PLC since August 2013 having previously been Executive Vice-President of Personnel and Chief Human Resources Officer for Michelin North America. His career with Michelin has spanned three continents including assignments in the United States, France, Northern Ireland and Australia. He has served on the Clemson Professional Advancement and Continuing Education Board, the Rubber Manufacturers Association HR Committee and the Advisory Board of the Medical University of South Carolina's Hollings Cancer Center.
David graduated from Oxford University (Classics) and has extensive CEO experience in a variety of industries including industrial textiles, heating appliances, print & pack and ceramic tiles. He is Chairman of Lucideon (previously Ceram Research), a materials testing and technology company and his other current roles include business consultancy and mentoring. His interests lie in economic regeneration, learning & skills and higher education.
Mike Hassall BSc (Hons), DMS, CEng, FIMMM, MIMgmt, is the Managing Director of Wardell Armstrong LLP, a multi-disciplinary engineering and environmental consultancy. The business operates both in the UK and internationally with some 40% of its business overseas, predominantly in mining and the environment. Mike has a wide experience in the surface coal mining industry and also in the investigation and reclamation of brownfield land.
Jenny Ledgar is Commercial Director with Royal Mail Wholesale having previously held the position of Head of Media Products and Commercial Policy in Royal Mail's retail business. With over 30 years experience with Royal Mail, Jenny has a broad knowledge including Business Development, Strategic Marketing, Business Strategy, Commercial Policy and Revenue Risk Management. Prior to that Jenny held a variety of senior sales roles across multiple sectors.
Ross Mitchell is Managing Director of Wood Mitchell Printers Ltd based in Stoke-on-Trent, a family company started in 1904. Educated locally and with a degree in Engineering, Ross trained and qualified as a chartered accountant in London with KPMG. He went on to work for Salomon Brothers International, an American investment bank, and Martin Sorrell at WPP Group plc before returning to work for the printing company. He is a director of the Mitchell Memorial Youth Arts Centre Ltd, a charity established to provide creative opportunities for young people in the local area.
Simon Ramery is the founder and Senior Director of Innovation Capital Advisors (ICA), which was established in 2013 to provide strategic advice to growing companies and help them raise capital of between £2m and £100m to enable them to realise their full potential. In addition to Innovation Capital Advisors, Simon is a member of the Lay Council at Keele University, a non-executive director at The Quality Social Housing Company and is a consultant at Cavendish Corporate Finance.
Tony Scholes is CEO of Stoke City Football Club. He joined Stoke City as Chief Executive in September 2004 and has been influential in the Club's progress to become firmly established in the Barclays Premier League. A former Director of the Football League and member of the FA Council, Tony previously spent six years as the Chief Executive of Preston North End before leaving to establish a sports lottery business prior to his appointment at the Britannia Stadium. After graduating from Nottingham University in industrial economics, he began his career with KPMG where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
John joined Newcastle Borough Council as Chief Executive in January 2011. He started his local government career working for Hertfordshire County Council as a policy officer and over a number of years undertook roles across the council's service functions. In 1997 he became Head of Policy with Norfolk County Council and in 1999 went on to spend seven years as Director of the County Council's Network, a national role based in Local Government House in London. In 2006 John returned to Hertfordshire County Council as Director of Strategy and Partnerships.
Philip is currently Chairman of Closerstill which is one of Britain's largest exhibition groups. Previously, he was CEO of Blenheim, the world's largest event and conference owner, CEO and chairman of Nottingham Forest Football Club and CEO of Deagostini group.
Dr Chris Tuppen
Dr Chris Tuppen is an Honorary Professor at Keele University and a Visiting Professor of Smart Technologies in the School of Science, Technology and Health, University Campus Suffolk.
His company, Advancing Sustainability Ltd, has advised organisations large and small, including household names such as Microsoft, BT, HP, The Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the United Nations, consulting on sustainability strategy, climate change, smart technologies, risk and business analysis and corporate social responsibility. He is currently a member of the Executive Board of the Prince of Wales Accounting for Sustainability project, a member of the NHS Sustainable Development National Advisory Group, BBC Sustainability Advisory Group, Director of the Aldersgate Group and a member of the Green Economy Pathfinder Board of the New Anglia LEP.
Mike is Vice President and Chief Security Officer of Capgemini. He provides executive leadership of their world-class team of over 250 security experts in the UK delivering Consulting, Architecture, Managed Security Services and Risk Management Services. Mike joined the Army straight from School and was commissioned into the Royal Engineers passing out from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and the Royal School of Military Engineering. He held a number of command appointments at Troop and Squadron Command levels and also worked as a Staff Officer in Headquarters 16 Air Assault Brigade and within the Ministry of Defence.
Penny is HR Director for Autonet Insurance. She has a degree in Social Sciences from the University of Leicester, a postgraduate diploma in Human Resource Management from the University of Manchester and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. She has worked in the insurance industry for more than 20 years and is passionate about the importance of business and educational establishments working together to develop a talented, enthusiastic and capable workforce for the future.
Since 2011, Sara has been Chief Executive of Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, supporting businesses across Staffordshire to create growth and jobs. Previously she was Director of Enterprise Development at St Helens Chamber, managing a team of talented people helping to change the culture of enterprise in St Helens. Sara was also Policy and Membership Manager, Liverpool Chamber of Commerce from 1998 to 2006 which involved managing a team of policy and information advisors to provide research services to the staff and members of the Chamber.
