I am an Innovation Advisor for KIITE, working primarily, though far from exclusively, within the School of Computing and Mathematics. Prior to taking on this position I was Manager of the Institute for Leadership and Sustainability (IFLAS) at the University of Cumbria. I have a first degree from the University of Manchester, and an MBA (distinction!). I spent the first eleven years of my working life in a food manufacturing company, where I started off as a Microbiology Officer and ended up as factory Production Control Manager. Since then my work has taken me in many directions including seventeen years of running my own project consultancy business and ten years in higher education. It has included business support, training, mentoring, project consultancy, and international development across private, public and voluntary sectors. In more recent years my focus has been on training and assisting business starts and existing businesses to become established and to grow sustainably, often with the help of students, graduates and academics, e.g. through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs).
My research interests include leadership for sustainability, change agency for organisational sustainability and entrepreneurship. I am a member of the International Leadership Association and the British Academy of Management.
