I joined Keele as a lecturer in Chemistry in April 2008 and promoted to senior lecturer in 2015. Since then I have shifted from disciplinary research io education research and scholarship. I am particularly interested in the factors that influence students' attainment such as developing conceptual understanding, workload, and attitude to study. I believe that all teaching, learning and assessment should be inclusive by design, not in addition, and am involved in several initiatives around well-being in the curriculum, particularly around workload and assessment. I am part of a national group of science academics who run workshops on decolonising science and we have recently completed an Advance HE sharing good practice grant to create resources highlighting the need to decolonise science. My educational scholarship publications span a decade and include work on feedback in various formats, outreach with museums, and the role of technology such as lecture capture and assessment of presentation skills using screencasts. I was shortlisted for the 2020 Green Gowns award, Staff Sustainability Champion category for my work on our Sustainable Chemistry module and work within the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences to promote sustainability across all activities.
